Research on Experimental Media:

1        Song of Cuba:

I selected this movie to show how people from this era are trying to hold on to their heritage. Most of us care about where we came from and why we are the way we are which has a lot to do with our genes and those genes are our heritage.

This movie is about two people who live in a foreign land and they both care about where they came from and how much they miss it, the passion for their heritage is the connection they have and is the thing that make them understand each other.

 But at times it is hard to balance their lives and they do run into problems but they always find a way back to each other.For me this movie touched a soft spot and I wanted my movie to show heritage as well because for me it is very important where I can from so the idea of my film is going to be inspired by how people can truly forget where they came from and it is very important to everyone.

2    Let the Daylight into the Swamp:

This movie tells you a story about a man and how they used to live. For me the story telling of this movie was quite interesting and I added this movie to my research so I can learn how to tell my story in my movie. As you might have come across the stories that are told by your elders and you can always see hoe when they are telling a certain story there is a spark in their eyes as by telling those stories they are reliving the past and you seem to get transported with them as they are moving along their story. This story telling idea has somewhat generated from that when there were no TVs or any kind of entertainment grandmas use to tell stories about their childhood and how they use to live and it has always been fascinating no matter what day and age we live in.

It has a beautiful scene of a woman singing Lullaby to a baby and the whole scene is executed so beautifully. The movie is over all outstanding and it is basically how when an old person tells them about their past and how they used to live and how there where different characters and everyone affected the story line. It tells you how stories are formed in our minds and how we remember it.

3      Glimpses:

I chose this movie for its execution, as the most important part of any film is the execution no matter how great my idea is I know if I don’t execute it well enough then all the hard work is going to go to waste.

The scene that caught my eye was when the train passed and the team of football players moved in the scene executing their movements, I haven’t seen this type of movie before and I wanted to add this to my film and learn this skill of execution.

So that’s why I choose this movie for my research because I was mesmerized by its execution and how the director combined its whole idea and showed his movie in 5 mins. As my final film is going to be of 5 mins I needed a guide to how can I compile my idea without it being boring or it lagging as the video as to be engaging enough so the audience enjoys it as much as they enjoyed this Film.

My Idea:

As I have mentioned above my video is going to be about heritage and I will compile a video of people showing their great grandparents and how it is important to those people to hang on to those memories. The film is also going to switch between the present and the pass to keep the video interesting. I might try to experiment with characters emotions and link them with an archive I have saved of their past.

There is this weird part of how our brains work and you might have noticed too, whenever you are going through your memories you mostly tend to only hold on to the good parts and that’s just how brain works. Therefore whenever we hear a story from our elders everything is rainbows and unicorns because they only remember the good stuff not the bad stuff that they were going through at that time and somewhat you can also call it nostalgic feeling that corrupts our feelings and I’m taking advantage of that are implying in on my movie.

Now I haven’t narrowed down how will I execute my idea as I’m inspired by the Glimpses film for execution but as I know I lack in this area of making my film I will put my energy and work in coming up with ideas that will help me execute the video as I have it in my mind.
